ABOUT AL BERNSTEIN

Al Bernstein ringside for the Showtime
Championship Boxing series.
Al Bernstein began his career in the 1970's with Lerner Newspapers in
Chicago and eventually became a managing editor.
In 1980, he joined ESPN
as a boxing analyst for the Top Rank Boxing Series. Al continued at ESPN
until 2003, during which time he also worked as a reporter for Sportscenter,
covering major boxing matches, Major League Baseball, the NBA and the
NFL draft. He also wrote and hosted the series Big Fights Boxing Hour for
ESPN Classic.
In 1992 and 1996 he served as the boxing analyst for NBC's
coverage of the Summer Olympic Games.
Al currently serves as analyst on the Showtime Championship Boxing
Series on the Showtime Networks. Al has been with Showtime since 2003
and during that time has also hosted shows on
Shobox:The New Generation boxing series and on ShoXC, a mixed martial

From 1999-2002 he was a sports anchor for Fox 5 news in Las Vegas. On
radio, Al hosted "The Al Bernstein Sports Party" for four years on ESPN 920,
the ESPN radio affiliate in Las Vegas. Al also hosts Proline, a weekly
football show on the USA Network.
Al has also published “Boxing For
Beginners,” an instructional-historical book on boxing and has contributed
articles as a featured writer for Ring Magazine and Boxing Illustrated.
Currently, Al does celebrity appearances and shows at Native American and
riverboat casinos around the country.
Al is a Vice-Chair of the Board of
Directors of The Caring Place, a nonprofit facility in Southern Nevada that
provides free services to those touched by cancer. This facility was cofounded

1974-1979-Managing editor at Lerner Newspapers and won the Chicago Newspaper Guild award for best news story – an investigation into illegal land deals by suburban officials.
1978-Started writing for Boxing Illustrated, had his book, “Boxing For Beginners” published by Contemporary Publishing.
1980-Joined ESPN as analyst on the “Top Rank Boxing” series.
1983-Announced his first major pay per view match--Marvin Hagler vs. Roberto Duran.
1985-Celebrated Top Rank Boxing’s 5th anniversary with interview of legendary boxing announcer Don Dunphy.
1986-Made his acting debut in “Streets of Gold” then followed it up with appearances in “Rocky V” (1990), and “Play It To The Bone” (2000). He has also made guest appearances on T.V. shows among which are the HBO series “Arli$$”, the Showtime movie “Paradise”, and the HBO movie “Glory Days”.
1987-Performed his musical nightclub act at Caesar’s Palace for three nights leading up to the Sugar Ray Leonard-Marvin Hagler fight.
1988-Won the Sam Taub Award for excellence in boxing broadcasting journalism, released his first musical album, “My Very Own Songs.”
1992-Served as analyst on NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games in Barcelona, competed in the team penning competition at the Ben Johnson Celebrity Rodeo (first of four times Al would ride in these rodeos).
1993-Served as Grand Marshall of the Payson Rodeo (oldest rodeo in America)
1995-Wrote and hosted award winning series “Big Fights Boxing Hour.”
1996-Worked as analyst on NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games in Atlanta, released his musical CD, “Let the Games Begin.”
1997-At Ring magazine’s 75th Anniversary Awards show presented Don Dunphy with award as “best boxing announcer of all time.”
1998-Began covering major league baseball for ESPN’s Sports center.
1999-Started three year run as sports anchor for KVVU television in Las Vegas
2002-Began four year stint as host of “Al Bernstein’s Sports Party” on ESPN 920 radio in Las Vegas.
2003-Joined Showtime Networks as the analyst on the Showtime Championship Boxing series.
2005-Celebrated 25 years as a sportscaster and “The Voice of Boxing”
2006-Joined the non-profit board of The Caring Place…for those touched by cancer (his wife Connie is a co-founder of TCP).
2007-Announced his first mixed martial arts show on Showtime’s ShoXC series.
2008-Participated in the grand opening of the Caring Place in Las Vegas, joined IBN Sports to form the Al Bernstein Boxing Channel.

Al travels around the country making appearances, doing speeches and serving as master of ceremonies at business conferences and conventions, Indian and Riverboat casinos, and many other types of events. Here are some of his programs:
- An Evening with Al Bernstein: This event uses great video highlights and Al’s renowned story telling ability to entertain audiences. This touches on boxing, broadcasting and the sports scene in general.
Master of Ceremonies Extraordinaire: Al is a glib and flexible MC who adds star power to any sports or entertainment event. He has been an MC at hundreds of events throughout the years.
VIP Celebrity Ambassador: Al makes special appearances at Casinos around the world, for public events and for VIP parties hosted by the Player Development departments at these casinos. The casino customers enjoy spending time with the “Voice of Boxing.”
Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Appearances: Al often does special guest appearances at boxing and mixed martial arts matches around the world. He does media appearances leading up to the card and visits with fans at the event. Al adds a special luster to any boxing or MMA event he attends.
Al Bernstein’s Boxing Party: This fun-filled presentation involves audience participation that allows audience members to win prizes and match wits with “The Voice of Boxing.” This show includes great video highlights and behind the scenes stories from the some of the most significant boxing events of the last quarter century.
ESPN: The Idea They Couldn’t Kill: This is Al’s signature speech. Al’s 25 years as a leading sportscaster at ESPN have provided funny and poignant stories about the developing years of ESPN and beyond. WHAT AL'S UP TO ...
November 8, 2008-- Al will serve as analyst on the pay per view
telecast in the United States of the Arthur Abraham-Raul Marquez IBF
middleweight title fight. This will be broadcast in the afternoon. Check
local cable listings for time and how to order this show. Nick Charles
will be Al's partner on this broadcast.
November 20, 2008-- American Iron and Metal Fight Night at The Tank.
Al will make a special guest appearance at the fight card at the HP Pavilion
in San Jose, CA. He'll be on hand to meet and greet the fans and speak to a
special ringsiders group. Al serves as a spokesperson for the Fight Nights.
December 13, 2008-- Al will join the broadcast team of Shobox:
The New Generation for the Kendall Holt-Ricardo Torres junior welterweight
title match. The match will be televised on Showtime in the United States at 11 p.m.
